Praise for The Survival Guide for Rookie Moms

Melanie Osmack, Director/Instructor Fit 4 Two Pre and Postnatal Fitness Inc.
Finally! A book that is as funny as it is accurate. New moms will tone their tummies from laughing as much as from exercising. I applaud Lorraine and Erica for encouraging women to ease back into fitness rather than jump back in – postpartum moms need to hear this message. I love all the core exercise ideas. They are simple, realistic and you can do them anywhere. Best of all, they produce results. Also thank you for talking about Diastasis Recti! I get so many questions about this in class and it’s great to see it covered in this fantastic book for new moms.

Dr. Kim Newell, MD
I love it! — the writing is familiar and very funny, and speaks directly to the questions that many new parents ask me.

Lissa Rankin, MD OB/GYN physician, author of ‘What’s Up Down There?’, founder of Owning Pink, and proud Mama.
The Survival Guide for Rookie Moms serves up a much-needed dose of comfort, reassurance, humor, and wisdom. Lorraine and Erica, who survived the first year and lived to write about it, hold your hand as you walk down your own unique, uncharted path of motherhood. With humor, candor, and accurate information, this book reads like a girlfriend’s guide but serves up the wisdom of a medical manual. As an OB/GYN physician, I wish I had this book to swaddle into the baby blankets when I pass off a newborn to the anxious new mother. And as a mommy, I wish I’d had this book to guide me through what they don’t teach you in medical school.
The Survival Guide for Rookie Moms provides new moms with the best support of all: the knowledge that others –– MANY others – have experienced the same trials, conundrums, confusion, and loneliness that often accompanies the first year of motherhood. Think of it as the best friend, adoring mother, mentor, medical adviser, entertaining comedian, and wise sage you wish you had sitting on your shoulder during every moment of your baby’s first year.

Melissa Gunning, Mom and founder of Wean Green
The Survival Guide for Rookie Moms taught me a LOT (I know, I know, I appear to know it all already;). This book is a fabulous resource for new and experienced moms alike!! With over 6 years between my kids I felt like a rookie both times around!!
Erica Wells & Lorraine Regel tell it like it is in The Survival Guide for Rookie Moms. There is no beating around the bush, no half truths, and absolutely no holding anything back! There are so many things that make this book awesome.

Brigitte Schulte, RN.
As a certified nurse responsible for the care of infants and their new mothers, I really connected with the content of this book. I found the information to be humorous, accurate and most importantly relevant. I would recommend this book to any of my patients and as a mom myself I can’t wait to get a copy for my own enjoyment.

Ann (Amazon Customer)
I bought this book as a gift for my sister, who is currently 5 months pregnant with her first baby. I decided to read it first… mostly so I could find out if she would think I was insulting her intelligence by buying it for her! I loved this book. I’m planning to have children in the next year and I know I will be using the information I found in this book. It’s not set up in a chronological manner like many of the baby advice books that are popular. It is set up in chapters by body part, with the first half of the book focusing on baby and the second half on mom. For example, one chapter focuses on baby’s mouth. In this section they cover everything from feeding to drooling to what they refer to as ‘oral explorations’ which really means babies put everything in their mouths. :)

One of the things I liked the most was the section on bottle feeding with formula. The authors are very non judgmental and present great information on both breast feeding and bottle feeding. After giving tons of good breastfeeding advice the authors acknowledge that some people just cannot breast feed for medical, professional or other reasons. Many of the books I’ve read do not give information on formula because it’s second best for baby. This book gives charts on when to feed, how much to feed and troubleshooting tips for formula and bottle feeding. I know breastfeeding is considered best for baby, but some times it just isn’t an option and it’s nice to have a resource that gives all the information you need on bottle feeding as well.

I would highly recommend this book for pregnant women or even anyone who is going to have a lot of interaction with a new baby.

I “like” The Survival Guide for Rookie Moms!! I own it and have read it – several times – and think it’s fantastic. It’s a great resource, written with a delightful humour & casual approach that I truly appreciated, because hey, sometimes we really do just need to laugh at this crazy adventure, right?

Melanie
I wish I’d had The Survival Guide For Rookie Moms when I had my first baby! Even after my fourth child I still appreciated the humorous insight and accurate information. The book is a great gift idea for any new mom.

Paula Vanni, Mom of 2
Having a new baby can make an overachieving, competent and confident mom a total mess in a matter of seconds. Why – because you are a rookie. Everything is new and confusing and you want to make the best possible decision in every area from what to feed, when to sleep to which shoes to put on your baby. The Survival Guide for Rookie Moms is the resource I wished I had when my babies were born – both of them – because it helps you navigate all the choices and priorities in a way that brings back some of the competence and confidence you need to be the best mom you can. It is a roadmap for the rookie mom that will make it so much easier to enjoy your baby rather than worry through the best years of your life.

Auntie Debbie
I love to babysit, but I don’t know anything about babies!! I would be completely lost without this book!

Susan
I love this book! It’s been my bible, every new mom should have a copy!

Martine Spinks, mom of 2
The Survival Guide for Rookie Moms helped me realize that I am not alone out there. It was so comforting to know that other moms struggled as much as I did and faced the same challenges in their first year of “mommyhood”. I really appreciate the advice and will pass this book onto other new moms.

Vicky Beanie – Mum
As a new mum you are constantly bombarded with advice and directed to “great” sources of information. None were as useful, frank, and therefore funny, as the Survival Guide for Rookie Moms and I wouldn’t have “survived” without it. A must read for all first time mothers.

Wow….I’m impressed. It sounds like a best seller for all the new and about-to-be moms. All we had was Dr. Spock back in the day and that was pretty dull!!

The book sounds terrific and witty…definitely a best seller. It would be a good gift for anyone getting into the “mommy business” for the first time.
