An Interview with CTV’s Tamara Taggart

We have seen her all over television, Twitter, Facebook, the web and even on Live! With Regis and Kelly; Tamara Taggart seems to be just about everywhere sharing her passion on all aspects of being a mom, career woman and devoted wife.

We were lucky enough to catch up with Tamara recently and despite her busy schedule she agreed to answer a few questions for The Survival Guide for Rookie Moms:

SGRM: You are a mother of two beautiful children ages 1 and 2. How have children changed your life?
TAMARA TAGGART: Having children has changed my life in so many positive ways. I’m calmer, happier, more understanding – I do worry more, which is something I wish I could control more!

SGRM: Since our book is about real life tips and tricks for new mothers, what is your top tip that you would give to a rookie mom?
TAMARA TAGGART:
Family comes first and don’t let anyone try and convince you otherwise, you always know what is best for your family so block out all the unsolicited advice from others and enjoy every single second – it flies by so fast.

SGRM: Having a little one, your son, with Down syndrome must add some extra challenges to your already busy home and work routine. What is your one piece of advice for those mothers out there with a special needs child?
TAMARA TAGGART: I don’t know if I have any advice because every situation is different. Beckett is a sweet soul, yes he has Down syndrome and it presents some challenges but at the end of the day he’s our beautiful son and he’s perfect. Just like other parents we want Beckett to live a happy, healthy life and we’ll do whatever it takes to make that happen.

SGRM: Being a mother of 2 small children, how are you able to manage such a successful career?
TAMARA TAGGART: With a lot of help! I have a great husband who is an amazing father, he’s the perfect partner – I’m so lucky to be on this parenting journey with him. My Mom, my husband’s family and my Aunt and Uncle are so involved with our kids – we’d be lost without them. We also have a great part-time Nanny, having this support system makes going to work possible.

SGRM: Being so prominent in the media how do you handle your fans when you are out with your kids and get approached by people?
TAMARA TAGGART: I’m always happy to chat with other parents, I love hearing what works or doesn’t work for them and I’m happy to share too. Our kids are very social so they welcome a chat!

SGRM: You recently opened a boutique kid’s store, called EiO, in downtown Vancouver with two friends. What inspired you to take on this project?
TAMARA TAGGART: I was looking for a creative outlet that would be fun. Now that I’m a parent I have an opinion on all kinds of kids products, so I wanted to put that to use!

SGRM: You’ve been a great sport! One last question because I have heard through the grapevine that you love to shop! If you could come back to life as any type of shoe….which one would it be?
TAMARA TAGGART: Oh geeze, I have no idea! I love my Uggs and I love Havaianas…but I wouldn’t want to come back as any of them. I wore a beautiful pair of 5-and-a-half-inch black patent heels by Valentino when I co-hosted with Regis….coming back as those shoes could be nice.

SGRM: Thanks Tamara!

Tamara is a third generation Vancouverite and a mom to two toddlers, Beckett and Zoë.
For the past eight years Tamara has been CTV’s weathercaster during CTV News at Five, CTV News at Six and CTV News at 11:30. Tamara was also the host of the HGTV Canada’s hit show ‘Love It or Lose It’ and has appeared as a journalist in feature films and several television series. This past summer, she was the only Canadian broadcaster picked out of thousands to co-host with Regis Philbin on ‘Live! With Regis and Kelly’ in New York City.
Recently, Tamara and two close friends opened EiO: A Kid’s Store in Vancouver. She also volunteers her time to The Kettle Friendship Society, Pacific Parklands Foundation, The Children’s Wish Foundation and the Developmental Disabilities Association.
