Decorating a Baby Nursery?

Decorating your baby’s room is probably one of the first things you’ll think about once you get over the excitement of finding out you’re expecting. Planning your little one’s first bedroom can be exciting, especially as you think about all the themes, colors and decorative items you can include. First you need to complete the “to do list” before you decorate the walls.

You’ll be spending a lot of time in this baby room so choose furnishings and decor that YOU like and suits your style and interests. Once your baby turns into toddler, they will certainly want a say in it. Before you begin hanging décor on the walls, make sure you have organized the furniture into zones. Here are some zones to keep in mind: sleep zone, changing zone, play zone, nursing/sitting zone and storage.

Wall Hooks
Wall hooks are decorative and functional. Great in a nursery for hanging wet towels after a bath, or for hanging clothes to get ready for the next day. As your child grows, they will find their own personal uses for their hooks, from bathrobes to jerseys.  In a nursery, mounting hooks by a change table or dresser is helpful in staying organized. Single wall hooks are great for hanging in small spaces that you just can’t seem to find use for, but make sure they are easy to reach and not hung too high!

Letters
Personalize your space with a letter, word or name that has meaning to you. Hang over a dresser or crib to create visual interest in a room. Make sure to use double sided tape to secure to the walls so they can’t swing. Benjamin Moore supplies a great painters tape to keep the walls intact, without destroying them.

Canvas Art Frames
Canvas art prints look great hung in a set of three. Be it a single print or set of three, decorating in odd numbers creates a focal point to any room.  This rule applies to any vignette for a shelf, bookcase, side table, or dresser. The spacing between frames is important. Too little space detracts from each picture; too much space loses the cohesion of the grouping. No more than three or four inches between pictures is suggested.

Growth chart
Measure the height of your child with our decorative wooden growth chart. Mark those memorable moments and firsts of many things your child will accomplish, because they grow up so fast. Personalize your chart with a name and make it a keepsake too!  And when you have to move because of the growing family, yes, you can take this with you!


Signs

Hang at eye level so that it’s comfortable to the eye for a person between 5’6” and 5’10”. When your eye surrounds the room, all your wall décor, including canvas, letters and sign, centre on the same height.
